We could be approaching the bottom of the building slump. I think we have 3-4 months to go before Home Builder stock prices start to turn up, which will be the first indicator that the industry has turned a corner; but Business Week Magazine suggests that Home Builder stock prices are highly undervalued, as a group, and that they may be nearing the end of their price drop very soon.
- Non-Residential construction remains unbowed in Boston.
- Sater Group is building homes in China
- Interest rates are dropping. The average interest rate charged for 30 Year mortgages fell last week for this first time since the FED dropped their rates.
- New construction companies are still being created. Colliers, an international Real Estate company, has formed a new land development group in Nashville, TN.
- Buffalo, New York seems to be missing the home building slump altogether.
- Reports of a possible recession are proven false.The economy added 110, 000 jobs in September, very close to the 115,000 that were projected. More importantly, the August projection that there was a loss of 4,000 jobs was changed to a gain of 89,000 jobs.
- Texas need to continue to slow their new home starts by 25% says a study by the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M.
- There may be a new hurdle to get into a starter home.HUD, a federally funded entry level mortgage program, will no longer allow non-profit groups to donate funds toward down payments. This is an attempted to make sure borrows can keep their loans up, but some are unhappy.
- I found a new source: allbusiness.com, it has a whole sub-section on construction, with great indexes, company names, tools and information.
